Jaska Lukkarinen

Jaska Lukkarinen is a versatile Finnish drummer. With his latest CD Neutral Terrain he has established himself as one of the leading young Finnish jazz musicians.

His musical life started, however, by playing the accordion at the age five and turning to percussion when eleven, starting studies with Tomi Parkkonen. Lukkarinen gradutaed from the Sibelius Academy jazz departement in 2009, after which he studied 2006-2007 in the Manhattan School of Music with John Riley.

Jaska Lukkarinen Trio was started in 2008 and Lukkarinen has been recording his repertoire on his own record label Jaska. He won the Sony Jazz Prize in 2008 and was selected the Young Artist of the Pori Jazz in 2009.
