Jussi Särkkä studied music in Sibelius-Academy, Helsinki 1982-88 (diploma 1986) with prof. Emanuel Elola. Further studies with Laszlo Hara (1989-90) and several master classes and private studies with several professors. Debut recital in 1989. Master of music 2003.
He has worked as the solo bassoonist in several Finnish orchestras, from 1995 in the Finnish Radio Symphony orchestra and as the lecturer of bassoon in Sibelius Academy from 1994.
Särkkä has played regularly as a soloist with all the major Finnish orchestras and as a chamber musician in Europe, Canada and Japan, and has made solo recordings for the Finnish Broadcasting Company.
He has given numerous solo recitals and is a founder member and solo bassoonist of the leading Finnish contemporary group, the Avanti! Orchestra. He has made first performances of several works of solo and chamber music repertoire. He also plays early music with authentic instruments, baroque and classical bassoons. Särkkä has been the artistic director of the Crusell Music Festival 2006-2011.
