Teppo Mäkynen

Teppo Mäkynen studied percussion first in the home town music school in Salo, then in the Music High School of Kaustinen and the Conservatory of Kokkola.

In 1994 he continued his studies in the jazz department of Sibelius Academy and started playing bands like  Mr. Fonebone, Quartet Coyote, Manuel Dunkel Quartet and keyboard player Pessi Levanto’s Burn!.

In 2000 Mäkynen was chosen the Young Artist of the Year by Finland Festivals and at the same time he worked extensively as a dj under the names DJ Zäppä and Teddy Rok, which gave the name Teddy Rok Seven to his new band.

Mäkynen has recorded widely in many respected combinations and he received the Yrjö Award in 2007. During this millennia he has been chosen the best drummer in Finland by the readers poll in jazz magazine Jazzrytmit.
