Jean Sibelius (arr. Jarkko Riihimäki): Songs
Jean Sibelius (arr. Kuusisto): Satu op. 9
Celebrate the north with beloved classics from Sibelius and Grieg! The concert is performed by Nicholas Söderlund and the Crusell Festival Ensemble.
Nicholas Söderlund, who was awarded second prize at both the 2007 International Sibelius Singing Competition and the 2008 Lappeenranta National Singing Competition, is a highly sought-after vocalist and chamber singer. He focuses particularly on new music and Finnish music. Söderlund is a guest soloist at the Finnish National Opera, where he has performed in several productions.
The Crusell Festival Ensemble brings together different artists performing during the Crusell Music Festival. The music of Jean Sibelius and Edvard Grieg showcase the fragile nature of the north and Nordic people’s relationship with nature. Sibelius’s beloved symphonic poem En saga (‘a saga’) is heard as Jaakko Kuusisto’s octet adaptation. In addition, the concert includes a performance of Aki Yli-Salomäki’s Harhoja (‘delusions’), which was created for the 2015 Crusell Music Festival.
